This week I’ve been reading more than I expected. Freelancing definitely has its perks. I have free time to read during the week and weekends free to do other stuff. I also have this major itch to buy books. I’m trying to control it though by going to the library and bringing home stacks of books. It helps but not much. We’ll see. I probably have to wait for some sale since books are crazy expensive in Singapore.

Anyway, I thought I would do mini reviews of some of the books I’ve read since they are probably reviewed a million times elsewhere and don’t have anything new to add.

  
Shock by Robin Cook: I used to love reading Robin Cook’s books when I was in school. I had just discovered the world of books and I devoured a lot of his books. I decided to read Shock as a comfort read and it’s definitely not the same. I didn’t enjoy it as much as I used to. It probably has to do with the plot. 2 girls decide to donate their eggs for money and then get curious to find out where the eggs went. In the process they discover a lot of shocking facts about the clinic. Well… for me it wasn’t shocking enough. And it wasn’t entertaining enough. The plot was very weak and it dragged a lot in the middle. But I did finish it rather quickly. I would give it a 2 out of 5.

Rainshadow Road by Lisa Kleypas: I love Historical romances by Lisa Klaypas. She is my most favourite author in that genre. This is one of her contemporaries though. It also has a bit of magic. Lucy is a glass artist and her boyfriend leaves her for her younger sister. This book is as well written as Ms. Kleypas’s other books but it saddens me to say that it’s a little weak in plot. If it would have been some other author then I would have loved this book. But with Lisa Kleypas my expectations are sky-high. The magic wasn’t a very prominent feature of the book either. If you want to read romances with magic there is no one better than Nora Roberts. Although this book wasn’t entirely disappointing I expected more. 3 out of 5.

Frostbite by Richelle Mead: It’s the second book in the Vampire Academy Series. It’s fluff but it’s interesting fluff. Rose, one of the main characters is very likeable. The plot moves fast and there is always something happening. There are vampires and damphirs and other creatures. It’s fast paced and easy to read. There is that ‘what will happen next’ factor, so needless to say I’ll be reading the next book as well. 3 out of 5.

I just finished reading ‘Mr. Penumbra’s 24-hour bookstore’ and it was wonderful. Started on ‘My Life next door’. Will see how that goes.
